Pacari Cacao Farmers Affected by Ecuadorian Earthquake

The death toll for the recent earthquake in Ecuador is now over 650 , making it
the deadliest in South America since 1999. With 26,000 injured and 12,000 in makeshift shelters, this is, according to government ministers, the worst tragedy to affect the country in 60 years. Sadly, many of the families who work with Pacari Chocolate are based in the provinces most affected by the quake like Manabi and Esmeraldas.

Santiago Peralta, founder of Pacari Chocolate, has been in touch with many of
the families and reports, “Communication is still difficult and it is too early to know
the full impact, but the message coming through is that what they most urgently
need are water purifiers as all the running water and sanitary systems have been
affected.” The photo shown here was just one of the many he sent through to us
highlighting the devastating impact on the homes of the people.

Santiago is working with a charity called www.thewaterbearers.org who are
organising the purchase and distribution of water purifiers to reach the families
with whom he works directly. If you would like to join the cause, please visit the fundraising page https://fundraise.thewaterbearers.org/fundraiser/ecuador-earthquake
Additionally, Pacari UK will donate £1 from all sales of our Limited Edition and Single Origin Chocolate bars made with cocao from the provinces affected to help support this work.

Our thoughts are with the people of Ecuador.

Director, Pacari U.K.
