Proud to be recognised with the Ethical Best Buy label

We are honoured to be recognised by the prestigious Ethical Consumer Magazine and to be permitted to bear their iconic Ethical Best Buy label. The Ethical Consumer Best Buy Label is only awarded to those products and services whose environmental and ethical record warrant it.

In 2018, Pacari Chocolate was selected as one of the top 2 most ethical chocolates in the market by Ethical Consumer Magazine.

The results show clearly that having just one or more certifications is not enough to guarantee whether a brand is ethical or not, with other well-known chocolate brands scoring much lower in this regard. It is so important for consumers to look beyond certifications to judge to which extent a brand is ethical! Furthermore, brands should not rely on just one type of certification and look into other issues that may not be covered by these.

Ethical Consumer Magazine evaluates different categories, including; Environment (environment reporting, climate change, palm oil, among others), Animal (animal testing, animal right, etc), People (human rights, workers right, supply chain management, etc), Politics (anti-social finance, controversial technologies, etc), Company Ethos and Product Sustainability.

What does it mean to be ethical?

Today Pacari works with certifications like, SPP (Small Producer certification a Fair trade certification), B-Corporation, Organic, Biodynamic, Kosher, but also has policies in not using any palm oil, not supporting deforestation, being vegan, it is looking to have the most friendly possible packaging to reduce their impact on the planet and has a partnership with WWF Ecuador on conservation of native Ecuadorian animals like; Jaguar and River Dolphin among others.

Pacari Chocolate is one of the very few chocolates that not only uses fair trade certified cacao beans, but has been recognised as a Guaranteed Fair Trade Enterprise by the World Fair Trade Organisation.

By achieving this certification Pacari has shown once again that it is a company that transforms the communities in which it works with farmers, promotes environmental care, empowers women and practices organic agriculture. The WFTO seal guarantees that members are fair trade companies, which makes them pioneers in business models that prioritise people and the planet.

Pacari Chocolates is proud to be a Certified B Corporation which is the mark of businesses that balance purpose and profit.

Pacari is now one of only 3235 companies across the world to have achieved this certification which legally requires them to show how they have considered the impact of their business decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.

The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high quality jobs with dignity and purpose.

Still, none of this will matters without the continued support from all the true ethical chocolate lovers and supporters of fair trade. As this world we live in is changing before our eyes, it is now more important than ever that you make your voices heard and to change our buying practices for good to consider ethical and fair trade.
